Answers to common questions about our CCW and firearms courses.

Getting your CCW

Applying for your CCW permit

Do you assist with the CCW application?

Although we do not complete the application for you, we can assist you if you have any questions completing the application.

Do I take the CCW course before or after my interview?

Submit your application first and get your interview date. For Riverside County residents you can take the course up to 6 months before your interview and also have the option of taking the course after the interview. Senate Bill 2 only allows a 90 day grace period after you expire to submit a renewal application. If you fail to meet that deadline, you will have to start all over and submit for an initial permit. Once you submit your application, you must complete the class and submit your documents within 120 days or your application will be withdrawn with no refund.

How do I apply for a CCW permit if I am a Riverside County resident?

Go to the Riverside County Sheriff’s CCW Unit website: https://www.riversidesheriff.org/757/Concealed-Carry-Weapons-Permit

I do not live in Riverside County but would like a CA CCW Permit. Can I attend your course and apply for a Riverside County CCW permit?

Unfortunately you cannot. You MUST be a resident of the county in which you are applying and provide proof of residency. Non-California residents can now receive the CA CCW permit. Instructions are on the Sheriff’s website. We are authorized to conduct the online portion of their training.

Our courses are only available to US citizens (both natural-born and naturalized immigrants) and permanent resident aliens. In accordance with the Department of State’s International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), only non-US citizens who are (1) lawful permanent residents (e.g., green card holders), (2) refugees, or (3) individuals who have been granted asylum will be allowed to attend our courses. Only those who are INTERMEDIATE LEVEL shooters can attend this course! All participants must be completely proficient with their firearm(s) and can demonstrate their ability to safely load/unload, lock their slide to the rear, engage a target from up to 15 yds, and demonstrate both range and firearms safety rules. Guns & qualification

Guns on your permit

Can I qualify for my CCW permit with my spouse’s pistol?

NO. Senate Bill 2 makes it a requirement for guns listed on your permit to be registered in your name with California DOJ.

Can I add another gun to my application after I’ve already submitted my application?

Yes. Just let us know the make/model/caliber/serial number of the gun BEFORE you attend the course. We’ll update your qualification form with your additional gun.

What caliber pistols can I put on my permit?

As of June 2024, there are no more restrictions on caliber. But be careful which caliber you choose. If it’s too powerful, you can over-penetrate and injure or kill an innocent bystander.

Can I have non-California roster guns on my permit?

Yes, as long as you obtained them legally and they are registered in your name in the California Firearms Application Reporting System (CFARS). You can, and should, create a CFARS account to update your information when needed and to complete transactions such as a Firearm Ownership Report (to report firearms you obtained and would like to have registered in your name) and Intra-Familial transfers (to transfer guns to qualified family members). Here is the link: https://cfars.doj.ca.gov/login

How many guns can I have on my permit?

You can list up to six (6) guns on your permit. This provides you with options. Senate Bill 2 only allows you to carry 2 guns at any given time.

Renewals & permit changes

Renewals and adding guns

When should I start the CCW Renewal process?

180 days before your current permit expires, no sooner. Riverside County’s system will reject a renewal application submitted sooner than 180 days.

Effective September 1, 2026, Live Scan fingerprinting is mandatory for CCW renewals per Senate Bill 2.
