I took the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course in June 2020, and it was exactly as advertised. Classroom setting until breaking for lunch, and then the rest of the day at the Rainbow range for hands on work. You buy your own lunch.

The class setting was clean, well set up and included hands-on work with firearms. The hands on portion included seated and standing exercises with unloaded firearms and a laser target. The focus there is on breathing, aiming and trigger control. Getting hands on in a calm environment is very helpful, especially with folks who are visibly nervous touching a firearm. Gary, his wife and Jack had three stations, so the nine students each got valuable time and direction.

After lunch, the set up at Rainbow was private because they used an instructor range. No other shooters wear nearby, so it was not as intimidating. Three shooter tables were set up, and three instructors worked with one student at a time on 22 pistol target shooting while the other folks sat well behind the line. I can’t emphasize how much help that one on one assistance was. Some of the shooters were visibly nervous, but the instructors took them through baby steps if needed. The focus was on aiming and trigger control. Lots of repetition with the goal of building confidence and muscle memory while safely handling the pistol.

The instructors met students precisely where they needed to be met, and so more comfortable or naturally adept students were able to go further. The session wrapped up with the opportunity to shoot 45, full and compact 9MM and some other odds and ends.

This is a great class, in a great setting taught by seasoned instructors. It was well worth the investment.

I signed up for the NRA Basic Pistol Class and was thoroughly impressed with the the course. I felt that the classroom and range portions were perfectly matched with regards to length, learning the fundamentals & above all, safety. The instructors, Gary and Konnie, are extremely knowledgeable in every aspect of the course yet they put out the information in a way that makes complete sense to students that have little to no background in firearms. L&L Firearms will be my #1 recommendation for all friends and family going forward.

Also, I highly recommend adding the extra pistols to test out following the NRA portion. This really helped me decide exactly which pistol(s) I preferred.

Signed my wife and daughter-in-law up for the **Lady’s**NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course, which they attended a few weeks ago. The wife has told me in the past I have the patience of a piss-ant, when it comes to teaching anybody (her) anything significant. It had been over 20 years since she minimally handled a firearm and the DIL had never handled one; so what better way to have this training covered – via a company that gets high ratings for how they handle business!

I made some inquiries, via e-mail, beforehand and Gary & Konnie were quick to respond and very informative. I appreciate that level of professionalism!

The normal indoor classroom portion of the course was moved outdoors to the range, due to the covid restrictions. I am glad it was not a cold day for them lol. After the classroom portion they moved on to live fire training. They had a blast (no pun intended), stated they learned a lot and feel much more comfortable handling firearms now. For first timers they did pretty darn well, showing me their targets which they brought home and proudly presented. They both stated that Konnie and her son (who assisted with the training) were great.

I purchased some snap cap / dummy rounds so they could practice loading / unloading, making safe and general handling / manipulation of the firearms they have access to in a safe manner; to build upon their muscle memory. I highly recommend you do this for the novice in the family.

I don’t know where to really start when it comes to Gary and Konnie. I randomly found an ad for firearms training on Google. I was pretty comfortable with firearms but I wanted to learn the ins and outs of handling firearms safety and efficiently. Over the next couple years I’ve attended Gary and Konnie’s classes for various firearms training and I am now on my way to becoming a NRA Instructor and future USPSA competitive shooter. What a great experience. We had been looking into taking a basic firearm safety training class, but weren’t impressed with what we were seeing … until Gary! His class truly delivered. I had NO experience with firearms and my fiancé had been shooting before, but when he was in his teens. Gary is very, very knowledgable, and made us feel very safe and now competent with our own pistols. We’re definitely going to take more classes. His training is top notch and shouldn’t be missed. I purchased the pistol course for my 75 year old mother for Christmas. Gary was very thorough during the classroom portion, taking the time to make sure my mother understood the material. I could tell he had a lot of experience with not only shooting but with teaching and facilitating the material.

At the range, Gary’s expertise really shone. His eye was always sharp, making sure the safety rules were followed while at the same time encouraging her as we progressed through the course.

I am a returning student of Gary and Konnie.  I took the Ladies Basic Pistol Class and then the CCW class.  I was impressed with the the presentation of the information, the organization of the class and how both Gary and Connie are knowledgeable and make you feel ease.   The CCW course was done in a hybrid model due to Covid restrictions, but I didn’t feel cheated. Gary runs a tight ship at the range and provides good supportive feedback. I would highly recommend any of their classes.

Gary no matter how many times he’s taught this class he never loses his enthusiasm , passion and understanding as a CCW carrier himself. His Military background helps give the class a firm grip on safety and what’s expected of them. Today during loaded no live fire practice I had one on each side of me – In what I saw These two were not qualified to be at the CCW course -I had to continually Watch them – all three staff helped them out extensively- and we’re on the ball cos they saw what I saw. I’m no expert but 8 years prior LEO experience and DX at Edward’s AFB RANGE and at SBSO Academy FBI training course taught me there’s no substitute for frequent range training, a clean GUN that you are very familiar with..thanks for a great course . Wow! Gary and his wife Konnie are amazing people! They are nice, sincere, patient, and very helpful. They are both WONDERFUL instructors, and we are so happy to have found them! Gary even spent about an hour with me on the phone before I booked the class since I had so many questions! They have much passion and knowledge! We tired lessons about 5 yrs ago (from another instructor) but it was not as detailed as Gary’s Basic NRA pistol class. We learned WAY more this time around, and now are much more comfortable around guns, and may just be ready to buy one now! Thanks again Gary and Konnie! I just completed the NRA/Winchester Basic Pistol course with Gary from L&L Training.

Gary is a 25 year veteran of the US Marine Corps, but he has the unique ability to leave that aside and to speak to civilians as well. I personally have a back ground in firearms via previous military service and know what to look for in a training course. I took the course from the basics to determine if this would be a good place to have my wife attend.

Gary is an excellent trainer. He has enough back ground in firearms to be able to relate book work to real life. He stresses safety in the class and practices what he preaches on the range.

There are several good trainers in the area, and a couple that I would be more than a little concerned about. I would not hesitate to send my wife through the course with Gary, nor anyone else.

I took this class and qualification today. Gary and Konnie are very knowledgeable and took the time to instruct and insure that everyone in the class understood and performed the tasks correctly and safely. Went here for my CCW Prep class today and going to enroll into my CCW Class and qualifier here soon. Konnie is an excellent teacher, very patient, and one hell of a shooter, making another student’s firearm a literal tack driver with less than 1″ groupings. Also, found out during my prep class that her husband Gary also works with my contract, small world. So it’s really nice to be around familiar faces and support not only locally, but most of all, our veterans.

The range L&L uses (Rainbow Shooting Range, nestled right off the I-15 N side) is really nice (actually pretty too) and insanely clean, has hand-wash stations and port-a-potties that are clean as a port-a-potty can be, so plan accordingly. Cannot wait to go back there, I might have to sign up for a 1-year membership!

I just completed L&L 16 hour conceal carry class for initial ccw applicants and every thing was great. Gary is a great instructor who really takes his time explaining all the laws about conceal carrying in the state, he shows exciting passion with his teachings. I took a Basic Pistol training from Gary and it was great.
He had a great teaching style and made it fun. He’s also very much emphasizing firearms safety and was able to bring the importance across.

I’ve attended Gary’s events a few times now and I always come out of it with new things I’ve learned to better myself as a gun owner. Konnie and Jack were fantastic engaging with participants. I brought along my neighbor and he thoroughly enjoyed it. I will be back for more training with L&L in the very near future!

I had my CCW renewal course today. L&L is a great company to get your CCW or Renewal. Gary, Connie and their other instructor were all very good. They are very professional and had a lot of good instructions and picked up new techniques that I had not received from my previous CCW class. They are very clear with their instructions and kept the class safe and moving along. They were very helpful with the less experienced shooters as well which made the rest of us feel safer. I highly recommend L&L for CCW or renewal.
Just a tip for newbies. Please spend time with your weapon and get VERY familiar with it and have some range time before coming to the CCW class. Otherwise this uses up quite a bit of time from the instructors and ties up
and slows down the class.
The instructors and well as your fellow shooters will greatly appreciate it and will give them peace of mind that you are competent with your gun. May 9, 2021

I contacted Gary for a basic pistol safety and shooting course. There was not a class posted but when I called him he immediately scheduled one that fit my timeframe. This was for my daughter and I and she was only going to be home one weekend this summer.

The course was very detailed and was exactly what my daughter and I both needed as we had never handled a pistol before. He took the fear and mystery out of the process. The class size was small so we had great personal attention to our questions.

After the in-class work, we met on the shooting range. He went over basic etiquette on the range, and once again over all the safety information for handling the pistols.

Certification process was clear cut requirements. Of course my daughter shot to a higher level than me! 3 of us in the group decided to add on the option to shoot 5 other style pistols. This was definitely worth it and I recommend adding it on to your package!

Thank you Gary. We will both be calling on you when we are ready to take the next step in shooting, and making a purchase selection for a pistol.

My husband, daughter and I took the Basic Pistol class. Konnie was an awesome instructor!  We learned a lot and we were given manuals and written information to take home to further educate ourselves on the importance of gun safety. The classroom portion was very informative and Konnie answered any questions we had in a way that was easy to understand. The onsite range part of the class was great!  We felt very safe in the environment and Konnie and Jack were very professional when teaching aspects of gun safety while properly handling the guns. This was a great class,Gary was a very knowledgeable instructor, who answered all of my questions . Great oversite at the range. This is a great class if you are deciding on a gun, you get to try out six different models. I would recommend this highly, I am to get my family members to get up here for it.

I have to say that this was both a very insightful yet fun training. Gary is very knowledgeable about guns, safety and weapons handling. Been a beginner when it comes to my experience with weapons, I was hesitant about the training thinking it would be way too advanced for me, Gary took the time to walk us through basics and all the different parts of the guns and the best way to handle them (which I’d been doing wrong in the past). Shooting different guns at the range really allowed us to understand the difference is force, recoil, weight, etc…Needless to say, i can’t recommend if enough. I will even have my wife take this training in the near future.

I was very happy to have my training at L& L Firearms to get my permit to carry a firearm. My trainer, Konnie was very knowledgeable and good at enforcing the points that you needed to know to be safe and how to properly handle each handgun. She was an excellent trainer. She suggested the perfect handguns for me to try and gave me a very good over all understanding of semi automatics and pistols.I really enjoyed the training and left with a better appreciation of handguns and living safely with handguns. I’ve had a little experience with long guns but was interested in learning more about pistol shooting. My son researched for a good NRA instructer not too far from our home and as a Christmas present gave me lessons @ L & L. The day began in the classroom with Gary instructing me on the different types of hand guns, safety, proper care and cleaning, also types of ammo and their uses. It was a lot to take in but Gary was sensitive to this and his repetition helped me retain what he was teaching. We then reviewed and a test was given ( I’m not a fan of tests)…. I’m pleased to say that I passed with a very good grade. After the lunch break we traveled a few miles to the range where Gary explained the rules & regulations of the range and continued with instructions. Now it was time for active shooting at targets with the different caliber of guns and ammo. Since I had been a trap shooter I had the habit of putting my finger on the trigger guard to rest before pulling the trigger and Gary was very patient but continued to help retain the new, safe position for my fingers on the pistol which are altogether different (old habits are hard to break :)…I gave Gary a 5 star review due to his patience, teaching ability, safety awareness and extensive knowledge of how to teach this course so that I would retain what I learned. I will be counting on Gary in the future for more testing for certification and hopefully competition help. Plus it was a fun day…thank you Gary.
